Trio Bohémo 2021 Parkhouse Award Winner

Championing young ensembles of piano with strings for 30 years, the Parkhouse Award celebrates its anniversary with a performance at St John’s Smith Square by its newest winner, Trio Bohémo from the Czech Republic. Embracing their vibrant heritage they will perform piano trios by Dvořák – his much-loved ‘Dumky’ trio Op 90 in E minor, Haydn’s C major trio XV:27, the first in a set of three trios that were written for piano with string accompaniment, which explains the dominance of the piano, but the high spirits of the last movement involve all three instruments in a vigorous display. The concert runs straight through without an interval and ends with Liszt’s expansive and lively Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12, ‘Carneval de Pest’ based on themes he had heard in western Hungary and believed to be folk tunes.
